Serial assessment of pulmonary microvascular permeability in a patient developing the adult respiratory distress syndrome.

چکیده
Serial measurements of lung extravascular accumulation of 113mIndium-transferrin were made in a patient with acute respiratory failure during the development of the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Abnormality of this index of pulmonary microvascular permeability antedated radiological change and appeared to predict the onset of frank ARDS.

Hypersensitivity Reaction and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Pyrethroid Poisoning and Role of Steroid Therapy
Background: Pyrethroids are generally of low toxicity to humans, but in suicidal poisonings which are usually associated with ingestion of high doses, they lead to severe systemic effects. Case Report: A 30-year old woman presented to emergency department with a history of intentional ingestion of about 15 mL of prallethrin around 3 days earlier. She complained of shortness of breath along with...
متن کاملThe acute respiratory distress syndrome.
The acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is defined by noncardiogenic pulmonary edema and respiratory failure in the seriously ill patient. The diagnosis is clinical, established by the development of new bilateral pulmonary infiltrates and severe hypoxemia without congestive heart failure (1). The risk for ARDS also depends on both host and etiologic factors. The most common causes are s...
متن کاملRole of pulmonary microvascular endothelial cell apoptosis in murine sepsis-induced lung injury in vivo
BACKGROUND Sepsis remains a common and serious condition with significant morbidity and mortality due to multiple organ dysfunction, especially acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Sepsis-induced ALI is characterized by injury and dysfunction of the pulmonary microvasculature and pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVEC), resulting in enhanced pulmonar...
متن کاملPulmonary vascular permeability to transferrin in the pulmonary oedema of renal failure.
Thirteen patients with renal failure and pulmonary oedema were assessed for evidence of increased pulmonary vascular permeability to protein by a double isotope technique. Comparison was made with 10 patients with cardiogenic pulmonary oedema, 11 healthy volunteers, and 10 patients with the adult respiratory distress syndrome. There was no significant difference in the accumulation of a radiola...
متن کاملTwist1 Controls Lung Vascular Permeability and Endotoxin-Induced Pulmonary Edema by Altering Tie2 Expression
Tight regulation of vascular permeability is necessary for normal development and deregulated vascular barrier function contributes to the pathogenesis of various diseases, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, cancer and inflammation. The angiopoietin (Ang)-Tie2 pathway is known to control vascular permeability. However, the mechanism by which the expression of Tie2 is regulated to co...
